Serving Greenwich, CT
Deciding between the 2024 BMW 5 Series and the 2024 BMW 7 Series is a challenging feat. The midsize 5 Series debuts its eighth generation this year with a refreshed look, updated technologies, and improved performance. The flagship 7 Series entered its latest generation in 2023, bringing updates to its tech and engineering this year as well. How do these elite sedans compare to each other?
Performance
The 2024 BMW 5 Series offers two powertrains. The first two of the three trim levels have a four-cylinder, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 255 horsepower. The top 5 Series trim comes with an inline-six, turbocharged 3.0-liter engine that puts out 375 horsepower. The 2024 7 Series has three powertrain options. The first engine is the same 375-horsepower powertrain found in the 5 Series. The mid-level engine pairs this engine with an electric motor, resulting in a plug-in hybrid system that produces 483 combined horsepower. The most powerful option is a gas-powered 4.4-liter turbo V8 that delivers 536 horsepower.
Appearance
The stunning 5 Series sedan is elegantly styled with a long, graceful hood that flows into a low-profile, curved roof. The classically contoured sides add to its appeal. At the front, the angled headlamps take a subtle turn upward for an individualized look. The chrome surrounding the kidney-shaped grille highlights the sharp corners. The larger 7 Series sedan has a two-tone paint option, a taller profile, and a modest side rocker panel. The front end is designed with powerful, inverted air inlets that integrate with the large, angled grille. The slender headlights make a premium statement with a pair of LED bars.
Features
Both of these elite BMW sedans are equipped with high-end features. The 5 Series is available with highway assistance, a panoramic glass roof, power rear sunshades, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, an interior camera, voice and gesture controls, heated seats in both rows, remote start, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon audio system, a wireless charging pad, a 14.9-inch touch display screen, and more. The 7 Series includes many of these features and is also offered with a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, soft-close doors with auto opening and closing features, multi-color ambient lights, automated parking, a rear entertainment system, massaging front seats, and several additional amenities.
