When BMW launched the X5 more than two decades ago, it became the first crossover SUV produced by this luxury automaker. This impressive model has expanded its powerful appeal over the years by adding premium features, periodic advancements to its capabilities, and exciting design updates. Now that your attention is centered on buying a new X5 soon, you need to know about the updates made to the X5 between the 2023 and 2024 model years.

Performance

For 2023, the X5 has a 335-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine and a 523-horsepower turbocharged V8 engine. A plug-in hybrid, six-cylinder engine is also available, delivering 389 total horsepower. These powertrains have all been upgraded for 2024. The 2024 BMW X5 lineup starts with a 3.0-liter turbocharged I-6 engine that delivers 375 horsepower. This engine is paired with a mild hybrid system. Meanwhile, the 2024 BMW X5 M60i comes standard with all-wheel drive and delivers 523 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid X5 is now known as the 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e, and it now offers 483 combined horsepower.

Appearance

The X5’s exterior shows off beautiful improvements to its façade. On the front end, the headlights are enhanced with two arrow-like LED elements. The grille retains its shape, but the front bumper now has a flat-bottom, U-shaped element with metallic trim and tall gills. The hood has a regal, stronger curve as it rolls forward to connect with the grille. In addition, there are new wheel designs, updates to the rear bumper and lights, and refreshed, elegant side panels. The 2024 X5 M60i, the top trim for the X5, adds quad tailpipes and glossy black trim.

Features

All 2024 X5s have a curved display screen and the new iDrive 8 or 8.5 technology. In addition, hands-free highway driving assist is offered for the first time. A few of the many premium features available in both of the X5 model years include a Harman-Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins sound system, Apple CarPlay paired with Android Auto, a 5G hotspot, a wireless charging pad, heated seats and armrests, a heated steering wheel, customizable ambient cabin lighting, soft-close doors, a panoramic sunroof, driver’s memory settings, and other advanced features.
