2025 BMW 5 SERIES VS 2025 BMW i5

Serving Greenwich, CT

The BMW 5 Series continues to be a standout choice for luxury sedan enthusiasts, known for its high performance and elegance. Entering its eighth generation in 2024, the 5 Series has undergone numerous enhancements, including the introduction of a new plug-in hybrid trim for 2025. Meanwhile, the all-electric BMW i5 debuted in 2024 and has added a new trim level with enhanced features for 2025. At BMW of Greenwich, our team is ready to guide you through the key differences between these two models.

Performance

The 2025 BMW 5 Series offers an exciting new plug-in hybrid version, the 550e xDrive, which combines an inline-six turbocharged 3.0-liter engine with an electric motor to produce a powerful 483 horsepower, achieving up to 87 miles on electric power alone. This model comes standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 5 Series also maintains its two gasoline engine options: a 255-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and a 375-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.

In contrast, the 2025 BMW i5, an all-electric sedan, is available in two configurations: the single-motor rear-wheel-drive model generating 335 horsepower, and the M60 trim, which features a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive and delivers an impressive 593 horsepower.

Appearance

The 2025 BMW 5 Series maintains its sophisticated look from the previous model year, characterized by its elongated, streamlined body and smoothly contoured sides. The front features a split grille with vertical bars and sharp edges, paired with sleek LED headlights and angular air intakes.

The 2025 BMW i5 has a more pronounced design with deeper contours along the door panels. The grille is slightly smaller but retains a similar shape, positioned above a distinctive, upturned bumper. Its headlights share similarities with the 5 Series, but the lower air intakes are more triangular, giving the i5 a bold and modern appearance.

Features

Both the 2025 BMW 5 Series and the i5 offer an array of premium features, including a panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, powered sunshades, parking assistance with camera guidance, and advanced voice and gesture controls. Additional amenities such as heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, a 14.9-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration, a navigation system, wireless charging, and a digital instrument cluster are also standard across both models.
